Alexander, Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: Garfield Avenue Water Main Repair <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> In order to add Contract Provisions which better protect the City from potential liabilities, it is <br /> recommended by staff that the City Council rescind their previous authorization to execute a <br /> proposal from Insituform Technologies USA, Inc, and approve the attached resolution which <br /> authorizes the Mayor to execute, and the City Clerk to attest to, a contract with Insituform <br /> Technologies USA, Inc. to repair the 16" water main along Garfield Avenue and extending under <br /> the Canadian National rail yard. The resolution authorizes expenditures for the work in an amount <br /> not to exceed $165,675 as previously authorized. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> • September 7, 2010: Council approved Resolution R2010-164 authorizing an agreement <br /> with Insituform Technologies, USA, Inc. to repair the 16" water main along Garfield <br /> Avenue and extending under the Canadian National rail yard, for an amount not to exceed <br /> $165,675. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The memo from the September 7, 2010 meeting is attached for your review. <br /> Following Council's approval of the proposal from Insituform, City staff determined that it would <br /> be advisable to follow a more formal contract similar to those entered into during the City's normal <br /> capital improvement work. The proposal amount of$150,675 and a requested contingency of <br /> $15,000 remain unchanged. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this proposal. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water Management Department <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Public Works Director, Keith Alexander, Director of <br /> Water Management, Matt Newell, City Engineer.
