RESOLUTION NO. R2010-143 <br /> RESOLUTION RECEIVING AND FILING <br /> ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY <br /> - IDENTITY PROTECTION POLICY- <br /> WHEREAS, protection of personal social security numbers is key to the prevention of <br /> identity theft, a growing concern among all citizens; and, <br /> WHEREAS, preventing dissemination of social security numbers is an effective measure <br /> against identity theft crime; and, <br /> WHEREAS, in response to this growing concern the State of Illinois enacted Public Act <br /> 96-0874, effective July 1, 2010, restricting the use of social security numbers by governmental <br /> entities; and, <br /> WHEREAS, in response to Public Act 96-0874, the City of Decatur is required to <br /> implement a policy regarding its use and protection of social security numbers. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: <br /> Section l. That the Administrative Policy & Procedure titled Identity-Protection Policy <br /> attached to this Resolution be, and the same is hereby, received and placed on file. <br /> Section 2. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, further authorized and directed to ' <br /> sign and implement said Administrative Policy and Procedure to cause the City to be in full <br /> compliance with the State of Illinois Identity Protection Act. <br /> PRESENTED AND ADOPTED this 6th day of July, 2010. <br /> c <br /> C EL T.
