DECATUR POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEMORANDUM
10-33
June 7,2010
TO: Mayor Michael T.McElroy
City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P.McCrady,City Manager
James A.Anderson,Chief of Police
SUBJECT: The Youth Advocate Program Inc.
SiTMMARY RECOMMENDATION: T6e Decatur Police Department has given financial suppoM
to the Youth Advocate Program since 1989 and YAP is considered an essential professional service
provider. The yearly formal request from YAP for$6000.00 has been received by the Decatur
Police Department The Decatur Police Department has allotted for this expense in the budget and
recommends that this request be approved by Council.
BACKGROUND: The Youth Advocate Program is a Crisis IntervenNon Program that provides an
invaluable service to the Decatur Police Department. YAP will respond to the Decatur Police
Department on a 24 hour a day basis regarding youth who are runaways or considered "lock-outs"
and in need of crisis intervention. YAP works with the Police Department and the family to
provide living arrangements for the youth who are unable to return to the home. YAP continues to
work with the family past the involvement with the Police Department working to resolve the
issues.
