, `.
Public Worizs Memoradum
NO. 2009-84
DATE: August 28,2009
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City C uncil
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Director of Public Works ,1 -,-l-F-
SUBJECT: Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 09-20

SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for Various Storm Sewer Improvements, City Project 09-20, to Entler Excavating
Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$95,139, and that the Mayor
be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
It is also recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing
Change Order#1 for City Project 09-20 in the amount of$40,000, and that the Mayor be
authorized to execute the change order, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
Prior Council Action
The City Council approved the FY 2009-10 budget Capital Improvements Plan which included
an allocation of funds for this project.
Project Location and Description
The City has received numerous complaints about the drainage at the intersection of Greenridge
Drive and Southampton Drive over the past several years. Southampton Drive appears to have
been designed to flow approximately 1,200 feet from Lourdes Drive to Newcastle Drive,
however Southampton Drive at Greenridge Drive is depressed and stormwater does not
completely drain away. Standing water has been reported weeks after a rain event and ice
buildup has been a problem in the winter months.
The 2009 Various Storm Sewer Project will correct the drainage at this intersection by
constructing 540 feet of storm sewer along Southampton Drive from Lourdes Drive to
Greenridge Drive. The project will also include the installation of concrete pavement and four
(4) inlet structures at the intersection to improve drainage.
Repair work at all locations includes earth and pavement work as necessary to complete the
drainage work and restore the site to its original condition.
Page 1
