Mar ley, P.E., Direc tor o f Engineering & I f as truc re <br /> SUBJECT: 2009 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 09-09 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for the 2009 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, City Project 09-09, to <br /> Barr and Robison Sewer&Excavating., Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of <br /> $498,766, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Prior Council Actions <br /> The 2009 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is an annual project prepared by the <br /> Public Works Department to assist with general improvements to the City's sanitary sewer system. <br /> Current Project <br /> The 2009 Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project includes work to install new <br /> manholes at various locations in the City to assist with ongoing maintenance work by providing <br /> better access for cleaning and inspection equipment. The project will remove and replace damaged <br /> sanitary sewer segments as they are identified through televised inspections. A significant <br /> component of this project includes the ability to perform rapid response work as sewer system <br /> problems arise that need to be addressed quickly. Having bid prices in place for sewer repairs <br /> enables the City to move rapidly to address collapsed pipe or sink holes as they are located in the <br /> sewer system and before they turn into major public health problems. This reduces the number of <br /> emergency time and material repair contracts that must be brought before the City Council. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was <br /> advertised Frida Ma 22 2009 and bids were o ened on Frida June 5 2009.
