Cro , irector of Economic and Urban Develo me� <br /> Suzan Stick , nior Planner��s <br /> SUBJECT: Zoning Ordinance Amendment-Section XXVIII.J.S Exter or Lighting <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of he proposed Zoning <br /> Ordinance amendment to Section XXVIILJ.S by adding the following: <br /> "c. The addition of one (single bulb) light fixture per property may be allowed to be <br /> installed in a commercial or industrial district without the submi sion of a lighting plan <br /> with the following conditions: <br /> i. The light fixture shall be placed on an existing pol that is located within <br /> public right-of-way or within an easement; <br /> ii. Written approval of all owners of adjacent property or property that in the <br /> absence of right-of-way or an alley would be adjacent pro erty; <br /> iii. Only one (single bulb) light fixture shall be added fro the effective date of <br /> this amendment; and <br /> iv. A catalog cut of the fixture must be provided. All ew lighting shall meet <br /> the requirements enumerated herein. <br /> For purposes of this subsection, property is defined as the conti ous lot(s) that are used <br /> for the purposes of conducting business to include all buildings, arking, etc." <br /> The City Plan Commission voted 7-0 to recommend approval of this petition at the June 7, 2007 <br /> hearing; the minutes of the meeting are attached. <br /> BACKGROUND: Staff has received requests for the installation of ne single bulb light fixtures. <br /> Currently, any installation of lighting for a commercial or industrial sit requires detailed information <br /> and site plans to be submitted for review and approval. <br /> After reviewing one fixture exterior lighting requests, staff believes that he proposed amendments will <br /> accommodate some of the requests while still keeping the night-sky light and spillover to a minimum. <br /> The amendment would allow for installation of a light fixture on a commercial or industrial site <br /> without the requirements of the detailed lighting plans subject to previou ly mentioned conditions. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There were no known objectors at the Pl n Commission meeting. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded t ' Suzan Stickle at 424-2786 or <br /> at smstickle(�a,decaturnet.or�. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None <br />
