  f;
• . .
Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement
The Sanitary District of Decatur maintains numerous pump stations throughout the City that help
move waste water from the City's sanitary sewer collection system to the waste treatment plant
off Dipper Lane on the west side of the City. For many years the SDD has also maintained the
City's sanitary sewer pump stations, six years ago this maintenance work was formalized in an
agreement between the SDD and the City on July 1, 2002. The City recently approached the
SDD with a request that they oversee the design and rehabilitation of the K-Mart Pump Station.
In accordance with the City's request, the SDD prepared an Intergovernmental Cooperation
Agreement to replace the K-Mart Pump Station. The agreement includes the following costs:
(a) Design of the New K-Mart Pump Station $ 25,000
(b) Construction of the New Pump Station(estimated) $100,000 *
(c) Construction Engineering of New Pump Station $ 10,000
(d) Legal Administration 3 000
Total Estimated Costs $138,000
*Actual Construction Cost will be based on competitive bids.
It is likely that the replacement work will require the City to secure additional property or
easements. This cost will be determined as the design work progresses.
Costs for design and construction engineering are enumerated in agreements between the SDD
and Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski, &Associates (BGM) which are included as exhibits to the
Agreement. BGM is a well respected local engineering firm that specializes in sanitary sewer
design work. The construction cost is an estimate and will be returned to Council for approval if
bid prices exceed those authorized by this agreement. The Sanitary District will bid and award
the construction contract with concurrence from the City.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this project.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Sanitary District of Decatur
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard G. Marley, Director of Engineering & Infrastructure, and
Matt Newell, City Engineer. Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting
to answer any questions of the Council on this item.
Page 2
