Marley, P.E., Director of Engineering& Infra's�'ruc�re � SUBJECT: Agreement with SKS Engineers, Inc. for Engineering Services to Repair a Slope Failure on Lincoln Park Drive, City Project 08-12 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an agreement with SKS Engineers, Inc. (SKS) for a fee not to exceed $20,000 to perform design and inspection work to repair a slope failure on Lincoln Park Drive, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the agreement, and the City Clerk to attest. The authorization is contingent upon the Decatur Park District agreeing to reimburse the city 50% for the engineering portion of the work. BACKGROUND: Prior Council Action • June 16, 2008—The City Council was informed of the slope failure with a"Green Sheet Memo" • October 20, 2008—The City Council tabled a resolution to authorize an agreement with SKS Engineers to design the work to repair the slope failure on Lincoln Park Drive. • November 3, 2008—The City Council tabled a resolution to authorize an agreement with SKS Engineers to design the work to repair the slope failure on Lincoln Park Drive. • November 17, 2008—The City Council tabled a resolution to authorize an agreement with SKS Engineers to design the work to repair the slope failure on Lincoln Park Drive. Engineering Design Necessary During the heavy rains experienced in early June 2008, a landslide occurred on the south side of Lincoln Park Drive near Sycamore Street, where the Sangamon River flows adjacent to the roadway. The slide damaged a portion of the bike trail. Page � 1
