PUBLIC COMMENT ON PROPOSED ROUTE CHANGES
Three public hearings were held on the proposed route changes, as follows:
Wed. Nov. St", 3:00—7:00 pm
Thurs. Nov. 6t", 3:00— 7:00 pm
Fri. Nov. 7t', 1:00—5:00 pm
The hearings were held in the Conference Room at the Transit Administration Building.
Boxed-ad ublic notices were ublished in the followin local news a ers around October 29t':
P P PP
Tribune, Herald and Review, The Voice, and Millikin University's Decatui•ian. The same
notice was osted in all buses and Transit buildings, and in Transit bus shelters on the affected
P
routes. A public notice, maps, schedules and descriptions was posted on the City's web site.
Finally, a news release was faxed on October 31 S`to all local news media.
The following three public coinments were received:
Kate Blackburn (by e-mail)
Coordinator of International Student Services
 Center for International Education
Millikin University
"At Millikin, I work with 31 international students, from 8 different countries, many of whom
are studying in the United States for the very first time. The majority of them do not have
drivers licenses or cars, and rely heavily on the public transit system to get around Decatur. The
Millikin Trolley provides them inexpensive and safe travel to the bus station, where they can
then travel by bus to grocery stores, banks or the mall. I'm very worried that the elimination of
the Millikin Area Trolley Route will make the lives of these international student much more
difficult and could ultimately discourage them from staying at Millikin long term."
James E. Pollard
Administrator of General Assistance
Decatur Township
He said that he was attending the hearing to give support to the proposed hourly bus service to
the new Decatur Township office (located on route#53 Enterprise-Taylor Rd.). The Township
relies very heavily on public transportation for its clients and hourly service is essential to them.
He is very pleased with the proposed change for this route.
Steven Luker
1312 N. Gulick Ave.
He said that he lives near the#62 Oakland bus route and rides this route frequently. He objects
to the proposed schedule change for this route that would reduce his service from one bus every
30 minutes to one bus per hour.
