Marle , P.E., Director of En ineerin & Infras�ruc�dre <br /> Y g g <br /> Matthew C.Newell, P.E., City Engine�p�y� <br /> SUBJECT: Agreement with Blank, Wesselink, Cook& Associates to Prepare <br /> Rehabilitation Plans and Project Manual for Garfield Avenue Bridge, City <br /> Project 04-27 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staffthat the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an ', <br /> additional expenditure of$24,000 with Blank, Wesselink, Cook &Associates, (BWC), for I <br /> engineering services to prepare and update Rehabilitation Plans and Pro'ect Manual for the ' <br /> J i <br /> Garfield Avenue Bridge over the CNIC tracks (between Clinton Street and Illinois Street), City I <br /> Project 04-27. This is in addition to $15,000 approved on August 18, 2008, for a total design fee <br /> of$39,000. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Prior Council Action: <br /> • On September 6, 2005, Council approved Resolution 2005-116 awarding a contract to <br /> BWC, in the amount of$35,200, to provide professional design services to rehabilitate <br /> the Garfield Avenue Bridge. <br /> • December 19, 2005, Council approved Resolution 2005-189 awarding an additional <br /> $7,500 to the agreement with BWC, for a total not to exceed $42,700, in order to <br /> provide structural analysis and design of the proposed temporary support system for <br /> Garfield Overpass. <br /> • June 16, 2008, Council approved Resolution 2008-97 awarding a contract with BWC to <br /> provide engineering services for an in depth inspection of the Garfield Avenue Bridge. <br /> This inspection noted further deterioration and recommended a more immediate repair <br /> project. IDOT has ordered that the bridge be signed to prohibit overweight permit <br /> loads. <br /> • August 18, 2008, Council approved Resolution 2008-125 authorizing an agreement <br /> with BWC to provide engineering services to update the plans and specifications for the <br /> rehabilitation work on the Garfield Avenue Bridge. The cost of this work was not to <br /> exceed $15,000. <br /> Page � 1 <br />
