r
 , .
` , .
1
windos on the Merclant street side, second 17oor have also been blocked in. We
recommend removing all existin original arcled windows due to deterioration and
damae (including the blocked in windos so tlere is a consisient appearance) and
replacing them with thernally efricient, low eterior maintenance, windows; fixed and
single hung. Sanple catalocue cuts and descriptions are attached.
The claddin on the bay windows consists of galvanized steel approxinlately
1 1/32" thick. It has been painied in inultiple layers, wliich appears to be the original pairlt.
In various places the paint has wonl off exposing tle metal, or is in the process of pealing
and corroding. Additionally, rust can be found sporadically throughoui. It is most evident
on tlle bottom of tlle bays where rust has cused some holes to fosn7. We recommend
cleaning the metal of paint and rust where necessry by `handscraping and wire bruslling,
or low pressure dry grit blasting as long as it does not abrade or daniage the surface.' Any
danaged areas should be patched or spliced with lilce niaterial. Then paint tlle exposed
surface witl rust inhibiting metal primer. And repaint the cleaned, patched, and/or primed
surface in the same faux copper layered technique for weather protection and appearance.
j I'roduct data is attacred. Alsc, small holes should beprovided on the bottoi; f the bays
for drainage of any moisture that enters tle bay.
The bay roof tops are rusted, with some flashing pul]ed away from the frame. We
1 recomnend a recover over the existing wiCh either 90mi1 EPDM adhered to mechanically
attached 1" polyiso insulation, or standing seam metal roof over l'° polyiso insulation.
►
Product data is attached.
The brick is generally in ood condition, with the exception of an area in the
i center of the buildin on tle Main Stree2 side where brick may be damaged. We
recommend removing any damaged brick and replacing it in kind. Some tuck pointin
work was done recently at streei level on both tle Main Street and Mel-chant Street sides.
! We recommend tuck pointing any areas that are loose or cracked, by `lland-raking tlze
i joinis, avoidin any damage to tlze nasonry, and duplicating the nol-tar in strength,
 conposition, color; and texture'.
The Denz Buildin. Dec.tur, Illinois SI:S Inineers. lnc.
Faade Restoration Pr>ject No. 8109] 1
