l '
r
.
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#08-3 5
June 30, 2008
TO: Honorable Mayor Carrigan and City Council
FROM: John Smith, Interim City Manage
Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing SupervisorQ <"
SUBJECT: Bid far shut off valve
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Hydra-Stop to
furnish a 3" single Hydra-Stop shut off valve.
BACKGROUND: Installing this valve in the water service line will allow the staff at the South
Water Plant to fix a leak in the line. The water service line feeds chemicals used in the treatment
of potable water. Isolating the water service line with the shut off valve will avoid having to shut
down the entire treatment facility. The equipment required to install the shut off valve is costly
and Hydra-Stop is the closest company in our vicinity having the necessary equipment.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Water personnel requested the work and recommend
approval of the bid.
STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424-2863 and Robin
Shirley, Water Production Manager, 4,4-2866. Keith Alexander will be at the council meeting
to answer any questions the Council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $5500 from the Water Fund.
