SUMMARY <br /> This program is designed to a11ow the Decatur Police Department to be more efficient <br /> and effective in identifying areas of increased criminal activity and using funding for <br /> hireback officers on an overtime basis to address these areas of increased criminal <br /> activity. The hireback patrols may be in the form of Anti Crime units,bicycle patrols, <br /> increased numbers of motorized patrols and neighborhood meetings. <br /> This ro will also allow the Decatur Police De artrnent to urchase additional X-26 <br /> gram <br />, P P P <br /> Tasers and train officers with regard to the use of the Tasers,which will enhance officer <br /> safety,reduce injuries to officers resulting from arrest scenarios as well as reduce injuries <br />, to citizens durin arrest. <br /> g <br /> II. REVIEW OF PROGRESS MADE <br /> The Local aw Enforcement Blo k and now e J t'ce dministrations <br />, L c Grants th us i A , <br />, Grants have enabled the Decatur Police De artment to focus additional enforcement <br /> P <br />� efForts in areas of where crime is more prevalent and where crime has had a negative <br /> impact on the citizenry. Bicycle patrols, anti-crime unit,traffc enforcement and <br /> additional motorized patrols aze all examples hire backs used by the Department. <br /> Hire back patrols have made an impact in areas where they are deployed. <br />' Purchases of the X-26 Tasers have greatly expanded the use of non-lethal technology I� <br /> thus reducing not only injuries to officers but also injuries to citizens. <br /> The application for the Justice Administration Grant 2008-F5667-IL-DJ will be <br /> forwarded to the Decatur City Council for review by the governing body of the City of <br /> Decatur. The application will also be forwarded to the Macon County Boazd by Chief <br /> Deputy Tom Schneider of the Macon County Sheriffs Office. A public meeting will also <br /> be scheduled to provide the public the opportunity to comment on the grant application. <br /> Notice to the public will be done by placing an advertisement for the meeting in the local <br /> newspaper the Decatur Herald&Review. <br />
