will be designed to transfer 10 million gallons of water per day. Lake Tokorozawa is a
secondary lake located on the southwest side of Decatur and is large enough to provide a
30 day water supply. This project will help to provide an adequate source of water
during drought events to ensure public health, sustained industrial activity, and enable
continued growth. The estimated cost for the project is $2.5 million.
4. Five Million Gallon Treated Water Storage Tank. Recommended standards for water
works indicate a minimum of two reservoirs for a reliable and continuous supply of
water. The South Water Treatment Plant was constructed in 1988 with a single treated
water reservoir. The existing reservoir cannot be taken out of service for maintenance
because all treated water must remain in temporary storage to provide adequate chlorine
contract time as required by the U.S. EPA, without a second storage reservoir, it is
impossible to temporarily shut down the existing tank for maintenance. This project will
enhance a reliable and continuous supply of water from the water treatment plant thereby
ensuring public health, fire protection, sustained industrial activity, and strong economic
growth. The estimated cost is $5 million.
5. Lowering Lake Decatur Intakes. The existing Lake Decatur intake is set at elevation
604 feet above sea level. It is proposed to construct a new water intake set four feet
lower, thereby gaining access to an additional 2,700 acre-feet of water presently within
Lake Decatur. This project will increase the available water supply to ensure public
health, sustained industrial activity, and continued growth.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this
Resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard G. Marley, Director of
Engineering and Infrastructure, at
424-2747.
Keith Alexander, Director of Water
Management, at 424-2834.
Richard Marley and Keith Alexander will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to
answer any questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Possible funding from the State or Federal
government will greatly assist in making construction of these improvements possible.
Cc: Dick Borders, Municipal Services Manager
Page 2
