Before CU Taxi/Illini Ti suspended operations, it had
been carrying 84% of the "Operation Uplift"passengers compared
to AOK TNI Taxi's 16%. Since their proposed fares are lower
than CU Taxi /Illini Taxi had charged, and since AOK TNI Taxi is
now the only operating taxi service in Decatur, the proposed fare
increase will actually result in a lower annual cost for the Transit
System. Based on the number of taxi passengers and miles for
January through April, staff expects a savings of about $15,500 for
the next year.
It should be noted that if CU Taxi/Illini Taxi resumes business at
the previous fares with the same number of rides as before, then
the fare increase proposed by AOK TNI Taxi would increase
Transit's costs by a small amount. Based on the number of taxi
passengers and miles for January through April, staff projects the
added cost would be a maximum of no more than $4,100 for the
next year.
POTENTIAL No known objection to amending the contract with AOK Travel
OBJECTION: Network, Inc.
INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager
OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME The cost to the Transit System depends on whether AOK TNI Taxi
IMPLICATIONS: is the only operating taxi company, or whether CU Taxi/Illini Taxi
resumes business. If AOK TNI Taxi were the only ti company,
Transit would save about $15,500 for the next year. If CU Taxi/
Illini Taxi resumes business, the proposed fare increase would cost
the Transit System up to an additional $4,100 for the next year.
