To address the problems
that are faced with the Lake, they must be addressed with input of stakeholders within each sub-
' watershed. With the input of the Big and Long Creek Committee this plan becomes a more useable tool.
The existing problems will only get worse with development and construction that is expected to occur in
the future. Planning and preparing for these issues now will reduce potential problems of the future and
improve current conditions. Everyone is encouraged to use this plan and learn more about his or her
watershed.
Our next step is to act on the recommendations listed in this plan. To do this effectively, a funding source
is needed to provide cost-share dollars so that the proper incentives are available to landowners. The
NRCS and SWCD watershed staff are positioned to assist the committee in locating funding sources. The
City of Decatur has in the past provided cost share dollars towards the implementation of conservation
practices. The committee can also apply for various state grants to demonstrate the recommended
BMP's in this watershed. Federal cost-share dollars would be another alternative to provide assistance to
landowners within this watershed. This watershed plan will provide the committee with the resources
needed to receive cost share from these types of programs.
17
