DATE: 01/24/08 SUBJECT: 300 Block N Water Street Demolition PWC PROJECT#: 704 CITY OF DECATUR PROJECT: 0703D As a part of my professional services to the City of Decatur for the subject project I am to assist the City in the taking of bids and prepare a recommendation for award after the bids have been reviewed. , As you are aware bids were opened yesterday for the project. i was preliminarily quite please with both the number of bids that were received and the dollar amounts bid. After reviewing the bids and completing my due diligence I am even more pleased. Listed ' below are my recommendations to the City for awarding the contract. I, Altemate A �' The low bidder was Steve's Trucking/Otto Baum Company at$186,640.00. Both Steve's Trucking and Otto Baum are local contractors and have performed many demolition projects in the City and for the City and also other types of public works projects. Their bid proposal met the bid requirements. While I have had personal experience with both contractors I checked with several of their previous project clients and received good reviews and comments. If the City decided to award Alternate A I recommend that the City accept the proposal/bid of Steve's Trucking/Otto Baum and enter into a contract with them. Altemate B The low bidderwas National Wrecking Company from Chicago, Illinois at$1,305,000.00, second low bidder was Bechstein Construction Company from Tinley Park, Illinois at$1,317,784.00,third low was Steve's Trucking/Otto Baum from Decatur at$1,348,200.00. All three bids are very good bids and tells me that the bids we received reflect the value of the requested work.
