Storm sewer construction along Oak Street near Lake Shore Drive at a cost of
$40,000.
2. Concrete inlets, gutter, driveway pavement and outlets along White Street near
Lake Shore Drive at a cost of$15,000.
The resolution authorizes the existing $450,000 contract with Barr & Robison Sewer and
Excavating Company to be increased by $55,000 to a maximum of$505,000 to pay for
the additional work.
BACKGROUND:
On August 7, 2006, the City Council authorized a contract in the amount of$417,783 with
Barr & Robison Sewer and Excavating Company to build the Nickey Avenue Storm
Drainage Improvements Project. At that time, staff requested, and was granted, an
additional $32,217 as a project contingency for a total of$450,000. The contingency was
requested due to the unknowns involved with constructing underground storm sewer
within tight utility constraints in and around resident's yards.
During construction, several unknown utilities have been encountered and additional
costs have resulted. City staff has been able to keep the project cost within the original
awarded amount without using the contingency through a combination of re-designs and
' deleting small items of work. The project is about 80% complete and barring unforeseen
circumstances, the project is expected to be completed within the original awarded
amount. The additional amount requested is $55,000 over the $450,000 amount
originally authorized by council for the project.
During project design, several additional drainage improvements were considered.
These improvements included:
1. Storm sewer construction along Oak Street near Lake Shore Drive at an estimated
cost of $40,000.
2. Concrete inlets, gutter, driveway pavement and outlets along White Street near
Lake Shore Drive at an estimated cost of$15,000.
