.
. R
These drainage improvements were not included in the project because the preliminary
estimate for the work exceeded the available budget. I
Subsequently, bids were received on the project, which were much below preliminary 'I
cost estimates. The bid prices are very favorable to the City and provide an opportunity
to add back into the Nickey Avenue Storm Drainage Project those drainage i
improvements originally considered but not included due to budget constraints. The total
cost to add these improvements back into the project is $55,000. The contractor, Barr &
Robison, has indicated a willingness to accomplish the work at current bid prices.
Since sufficient funding is available in the budget, staff wishes to add the work items
listed above. Because this work involves underground construction with unknown
conditions, staff requests that the original contingency amount of$32,217 be allowed to
remain. These funds will be used only if unforeseen conditions demand it, otherwise the
fund will be returned to the unobligated fund balance.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Barr & Robison Sewer and Excavating Company
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Engineering &
Infrastructure, at 424-2747
Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions
of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
The addendum amount is $55,000 for a maximum contract amount of$505,000. Funds
for this additional work are budgeted in the Capital Project Fund.
If the addendum is approved, the major work items should be completed by the end of
the year, with restoration and landscaping completed in the spring of 2008.
Attach: 1
cc: John Smith, Assistant City Manager for Public Services
Dick Borders, Municipal Services Manager
Matt Newell, City Engineer
Bobby Davidson, Engineering Technician Supervisor
Rex Dummermuth, Engineering Technician II
Barr& Robison Sewer & Excavating Co., Inc.
Page 2
