Construct an expansion of City Parking Lot#4 (near the Decatur Club) at a cost of $92,558.20, and; 2. Repair damages to the material starage yard and access road at the Hickory Point � Township maintenance facility caused by using the yard as a burn site to dispose of City tree debris. The repair will cost $25,000.00 and is approved for FEMA reimbursement. The resolution authorizes the existing $792,064.75 contract with Dunn Company to be increased by$117,558.20 to a maximum of$909,622.95 to pay for additional work. BACKGROUND: On August 7, 2006, the City Council authorized the purchase of the property located at 240-256 North Church Street in order to expand the adjacent City parking lot located near the Decatur Club. The building at this location was demolished in June 2007, clearing the way for the construction of the parking lot expansion which will add approximately 23 spaces to the lot. A proposal from Dunn Company is attached; the work is estimated to cost $92,558.20. The unit prices for the work are either identical to the street reconstruction contract prices, or similar to bid prices received on other projects. The proposed cost is 18.2%below the engineer's estimate. Following the 2006 ice storm, the City hauled thousands of truck loads of debris to the Hickory Point Township maintenance yard located on the north side of the intersection of Westlawn Avenue and Ash Avenue. The hauling and burning operations caused significant damage to the access road and the material storage yard at the township site. The work to dispose of the ash pile was completed in late June. Repairs to the site include grading and shaping the access road and storage yard and then placing an oil and chip surface on the graded rock base. This work is estimated to cost $25,000.00 utilizing the contract unit prices. On May 21, 2007, the City Council authorized a contract with Dunn Company of Decatur to perform pavement reconstruction work far the City. The street reconstruction work consists of asphalt paving and is the same type of construction as the work required to expand the City parking lot and repair the pavement at the Hickory Point Township site.
