 < <
Estimated Transportation Supplement for vehicle use in Decatur for actual
mapping:
Streets: 800 mi (within corporate boundary)
An allotment is necessary for general travel, traversing, and back tracking, over the
course of 800 miles of roads to facilitate the mapping of the hydrants data in lieu of
additional mileage accrued using two students' personal vehicles. Although the
actual mileage is difficult to estimate, we anticipate enough mileage to warrant the
additional costs as outlined below. Mileage estimates must take into consideration
redundancy of travel within the city, traveling to the equipment pickup point and
back at the end of the day.
Additional Transportation: $1,500
Data Management / Quality Assurance / Quality Control:
All data collected by GPS Field Personnel will be directed to the project manager for
processing, amalgamation, quality assurance / quality control, and input into the
ESRI Water Utilities Model Geodatabase.
Note: Al/ data wil/ be stored in a sca/ab/e and expandab/e ESRI Personal
Geodatabase Format (MS Access) with full attribute and spatia/ domains on
predefined fie/ds using an existing ESRI Water Utilities Model with supp/emental
attribute domains built upon se/ect fields. Customization of these domains is
abso/utely necessary to ref/ect existing coded and range va/ues used by the City of
Decatur Fire Department and the City of Decatur.
Data Management: $4,000
Internship Coordination
A successful mentored internship program involving GPS/GIS services requires
proper training in basic geodesy, GPS mission planning, GPS data acquisition and
data processing protocols, knowledge of geographic coordinate and planar coordinate
systems in addition to data amalgamation and Geodatabase implementation
techniques. The internship coordinator and project manager properly train individual
interns such that they may provide exceptional services while contemporaneously
attaining valuable hands-on experience in the disciplines of Geographic Information
Systems and Global Positioning Systems.
Internship Coordination: $2,500
GISci Special Projects Lab:
Considered our Mission Control Center,' the Special Projects Lab is used exclusively
for GIS-related mentored internship activities. Project-specific workstations
accommodate the small number of unique GIS projects which the lab assumes each
year. The lab permits students and staff to effectively communicate and provides
the necessary workspace for individual and small-group training and also houses the
department's precision geodetic equipment. Large format plotters, digitizers, map
