t« • •
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#06-65
October 25, 2006
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve G , City Manager
Ron Neufe , Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor,p

SUBJECT: Additional Cost for Diesel Exhaust Extraction System
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends increasing contract to
Midwest Air Pro to provide an automatic retraction system on the diesel exhaust
extraction system at Fire Station#1 located at 1415 N. Water Street.
BACKGROUND: A contract was previously awarded to Midwest Air Pro in May of
this year to furnish a IFederman diesel eiaust extraction system at Fire Station 1.
The Fire Department requested an automatic rewind on the system since Fire Station #1
is a drive through bay and is seventy five feet long. When Midwest submitted the bid
Nederman was in the middle of field testing the automatic retraction system and had not
released it for use on the unit. Since that time the testing is complete and has met all
necessary safety requirements.
According to Mark Hansen, the automatic retraction system will save a great deal of time
as compared to having to rewind the unit by hand each time a fire truck leaves the station.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Fire Department requested the automatic
retraction system.
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Sekosky, Fire Chief, 424-2811 and Mark Hansen, Deputy
Fire Chief, 424-2811, will both be at the council meeting to answer any questions
council may have about this purchase.
BUDGET: $3325 from an 80/20 share program from the Federal Assistance to Fire
Fighters Grant through the Department of Homeland Security for oprations and safety.
