, , '� <br /> ENGINEERING & INFRASTRUCTURE MEMORANDUM <br /> NO. 2006-66 <br /> October 20, 2006 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garma City Manager <br /> Matthew C. well, P.E.,Acting Director of Engineering & Infrastruc e <br /> SUBJECT: Retaining Wall Repair Agreement <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing an <br /> agreement between the City of Decatur and Dunn Company to repair the brick facing on the <br /> Monroe Street subway retaining wall on the west side of Monroe Street, south of Green Street <br /> and north of the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks, at a cost not to exceed $21,725.00, and that the <br /> Mayor be authorized to execute said agreement, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Dunn Company owns the east and west properties adjacent to Monroe Street, south of Green <br /> Street. These properties are adjacent to the large retaining walls that form the north side of the <br /> Monroe Street subway under the Norfolk Southern rail road tracks. The retaining wall on the <br /> east side of Monroe Street is owned by Dunn Company and the wall on the west side is owned <br /> by the City. <br /> Dunn Company is planning to repair the wall on the east side and during their inspection of the <br /> wall they determined that the City's wall on the west side of the street also needed similar repair <br /> work. They proposed to City staff that they complete the repair work on the City's wall at the <br /> same time they perform the work on their wall. <br /> The City inspected the subject wall approximately two years ago and determined that repair work I <br /> was needed to tuck point the bricks and repair or replace various portions of the brick facing. <br /> Budget priorities and design costs have delayed this work. Dunn Company's proposal will I <br /> relieve the City of costs associated with design and project oversight and will provide a cost <br /> effective option to repair the wall. � <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the execution of the agreement and the �' <br /> expenditure of funds for the work. All work funded by the City will be in accordance with the �, <br /> applicable prevailing wages for Macon County. '� <br />
