N 1,P.E.,Acting Director of Engineering & Infrastruct SUBJECT: Bo d Road S i r Sewer Extension Ci Pro'ect 06-13 Y Y � tY J SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended b staff that the Cit Council a rove the attached resolution awardin the Y Y PP g contract for Boyd Road Sanitary Sewer Extension, City Project 06-13, to Entler Excavating Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$59,658.60, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. The City expenditure I for this work will be $20,000 with the remainder of the funding coming from Robert M. Brady. BACKGROUND: The proposed project will extend sanitary sewer from the southwest corner of the Bob Brady Dodge dealership (located on the southeast corner of Boyd Road and IL Route 48) to the north side of Boyd Road. The project plans and specifications were prepared by City Engineering staff. The project was I advertised September 29, 2006, and bids were opened on October 20, 2006. The results for the � letting are as follows: i Compared to i Engineer's Est. I Bidder Bid Price Over (-Under) I, Engineer's Estimate $57,206.00 ----- Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $59,658.60 4.29% Barr&Robison Sewer& Excavating, Inc. $79,510.00 38.99% Burdick Plumbing &Heating Co., Inc. $80,190.00 40.18% The low bid for this proposed project was supplied by Entler Excavating Company, Inc. Entler has successfully completed several projects for the City of Decatur. ' It will be noticed that the bid spread is quite substantial. The design calls for a portion of the sewer to be bored under Boyd Road. The bid spread is mainly caused by the cost of the boring operation. Entler owns its own boring equipment and performs its own boring work which is beneficial to this work. The bid spread was discussed with Entler and they are comfortable with their bid as presented. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the execution of a contract with Entler Excavating Company, Inc., for the Boyd Road Sanitary Sewer Extension.
