Anderson Plaza <br /> Decatur, IL 62523 . <br /> Steve, <br /> Perha.ps at no other time in our history has there been a more dangerous time for our <br /> youth,a time where the allure of the streets and the threat of violence,unfortunately,at <br /> times seem to be winning the battle we continually wage to keep our children and our <br /> community safe. I believe that it is at times like these when organizations like the Boys <br /> and Crirls Club can be of the utmost value in giving kids a chance to live,helping to stem <br /> this tide and showing them that there is a better way—before it's too late. <br /> Today we serve more than 1,500 youth, 75 percent of which are from low income <br /> families and 86 percent of wluch reside in single-parent households. In other words, <br /> many of our kids are disadvantaged and at-risk and have been placed in the perilous <br /> • position of not having the guidance or the financial resources to thrive without a little <br /> help—some of which I am hoping that you can provide. <br /> I am writing to request a contribution to our capital campaign. For years we have <br /> foregone necessazy facilities and equipment upgrades,choosing wisely instead to invest <br /> more in programmin�and services for our children. However,we have reached a point <br /> where we can no longer avoid major capital reinvestment.Among other thi.ngs,we intend <br /> to: <br /> • Repair and resurface our roof,g,ymnasium and repair major library water <br /> damage. <br /> • Replace two vehicles which are 11 and 14-years old,respectively(These <br /> vehicles represent our primary means for transporting children to-and-from home <br /> and to planned activities). <br /> • Replace an aging compnter system and phone system. <br /> • Develop building maintenance endowment(It is our hope that through the <br /> establishment of this endowment we will significantly lessen our need for future <br /> fundraising efforts such as this) <br /> � <br /> � <br /> A United Way Agency <br /> I <br />
