recommends a SCADA Alarm System(a proiuct of Zetron)that will monitor eight (8)
functions at both the tower building as well as the secandary radio system that is housed
on the top floor of the Macon County Courts Facility. This system will repart any
malfunctions, changes in room temperature and security problems directly to the
Emergency Communications Center in the Law Enforcement Center. This will allow for
full time monitoring by the staff in the Center. The Police Department monitors and
maintains both of these radio systems and recommends the purchase and installation of
this alarm system to enhance public safety by assuring the sites are safe and operating
properly. This alarm system can be used with any upgrades made to the radio system.
System Costs-
Barbeck Communications Group, Inc. of Decatur is an authorized Zetron sales and
service representative. A bid for the purchase and installation of the alarm system
described above was submitted for$10,537.90. Barbeck will also maintain and service
this equipment on a regularly scheduled basis with 24/7 emergency service. This
purchase should be funded from Fund 30, the Radio Communication Fund. The Radio
Communication Fund collects fees from radio system users for maintenance of the
system. The fund is in place for purchases of this nature. There is an older alarm system
in the building that only monitors certain pieces of equipment and sends a coded message
to the service department at Barbeck. It is not manitored after regular business hours and
it is important ta have full time monitoring capabilities.
Staff Reference:
James A.
