Ne ell, P.E., City Engineer`2%� <br /> SUBJECT: Jasper Street Subway Rehabilitation, City Project 02-11 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for Jasper Street Subway Rehabilitation, City Project 02-11, to Otto Baum Company, Inc., <br /> as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$553,660.07, and that the Mayor be authorized to <br /> execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On October 18, 2004, the City Council approved an agreement with Homer L. Chastain & <br /> Associates to design improvements to the Jasper Street Subway. The proposed improvements <br /> include replacing the sidewalk and retaining walls along the road edge on both the north and south <br /> approaches to the structure. The north roadway will be replaced and the south roadway will receive <br /> an asphalt overlay. The iron railing will be refurbished and replaced. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was <br /> advertised June 29, 2006, and bids were opened on July 20, 2006. The results for the letting are as <br /> follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $ 739,365.70 ---- <br /> Otto Baum Co., Inc. $ 553,660.07 (- 25.12 %) <br /> Christy-Foltz, Inc. $ 594,911.75 (- 19.54 %) <br /> Otto Baum Company, Inc., provided the low bid for the proposed work. Staff recommends that the <br /> City Council approve a contract with Otto Baum Company, Inc., to perform the Jasper Street <br /> Subway Rehabilitation project. <br />
