The application for the Justice Administration Grant 2006-F-2417-IL-DJ was forwarded to the Decatur City Council for review by the governing body by Deputy Chief David Slade on March 3, 2006. The application was also forwarded to the Macon County Board by Captain Rick Bright of the Macon County Sheriffs Office on March 3, 2006. A public meeting was also scheduled for Thursday Apri16, 2006 at 1300 hrs to provide the public the opportunity to comment on the grant application. Notice to the public will be done by placing an advertisement for the meeting in the local newspaper the Decatur Herald&Review. III. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The philosophy of the Decatur Police Department has been to concentrate hireback patrols in areas where they will have the most impact. This philosophy has enabled the Decatur Police Department to have a greater impact on identifying and arresting the individuals or groups who axe most responsible for criminal activity. This makes the neighborhoods safer and creates a positive environment for the citizens who live in the specific neighborhoods. The purchase of additional X-26 Tasers will enable more oi�icers to have the ' availability of non-lethal technology which will reduce both officer and citizen injuries. IV. GOALS, OBJECTIVES,and PERFORMANCE INDICATIORS Program Goal 1: Concentrate enforcement on the small number of individuals or goups of individuals responsible for a lazge portion of crime. Objective 1: Identify the individuals and geographic areas with higher levels of crime and drug activity. Objective 2: Schedule hirebacks during times and in areas when crime and drug activity is at its peak and arresting the individuals or groups responsible. Program Goal 2: Purchase twenty(20)X-26 Tasers. Objective 1: Identify the most effective and efficient means to distribute X-26 Tasers to ensure Tasers are available on all shifts. Objective 2: Provide training to officers who will be receiving Tasers.
