SUMMARY OF PROGRAM <br /> II. REVIEW OF PROGRESS MADE <br /> III. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM <br /> IV. GOALS, OBJECTIVES,and PERFORMANCE INDICATORS <br /> V. PROGRAM STRATEGIES <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The program is designed to allow the Macon County Sherii�s Department to be a <br /> more effective law enforcement agency by utilizing the funding for hire back personnel <br /> on an overtime basis. The hire back personnel will include Deputy Sheriffs, conectional <br /> officer, and Court Security Officers. The hire back officers will be utilized to increase <br /> security in the Macon County Court Facility, area events, and to transport prisoners on <br /> warrant and to and from Correctional facilities in the State of Illinois. This will enable <br /> other Sherii�s Department personnel to devote more time to community policing efforts. <br /> The program will also be used to purchase fuel for squad cars and transport van. <br /> II. REVIEW OF PROGRESS MADE <br /> The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant awarded to the Macon County Sheriff's <br /> Department for the past several years has been allocated in large part to the hire back <br /> programs. These programs have included, extra security at the Macon County Courts <br /> facility, over hire hours for conectional personnel in transporting prisoners, increased <br /> security at special events, and over hire hours in major criminal cases. <br /> III. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM <br /> Utilizing community policing strategies commits the Macon Caunty Sheriff's <br /> Department to ensuring the safety of the citizens of Macon County. The Macon County <br /> Jail is overcrowded with 290 inmates housed in a structure designed to accommodate 180 <br />
