� � � � I <br /> ■ <br /> EXCERPTS OF THE <br /> MINUTES OF THE MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION <br /> Tuesday, July 12, 2005, 4:00 P.M. <br /> Item # 8 Request from Decatur Public Schools District 61 to: <br /> a. Make Illinois Street one-way southbound between Condit Street <br /> and Marietta Street <br /> b. Make Calhoun Street two-way between Grand Avenue and Condit <br /> Street <br /> Phil Bauer opened the meeting by asking if there were any objections to hearing item #8 <br /> first, being none, Mr. Mike Sotiroff, Director of Building and Grounds for the Decatur <br /> Public Schools District 61was introduced to the Traffic and Parking Commission. Sotiroff <br /> stated that the School District is trying to improve traffic flow around the New Hope � <br /> Academy facility which will open fall 2005. Illinois Street is on the east side of the school <br /> and will be the drop off location for the school buses. Presently, Illinois Street is <br /> designated as one-way southbound from Grand to Condit and one-way northbound from <br /> Marietta to Condit. The buses will approach the building from the north. The School <br /> District would like Illinois Street designated one-way southbound from Condit to Marietta. <br /> Calhoun Street, which is on the west side of the building, will be the location for parents <br /> to drop off their children. Calhoun Street is currently finro-way from Marietta Street to <br /> Condit Street and one-way northbound from Condit Street to Grand Avenue. The <br /> School District is requesting Calhoun Street be designated as two-way from Condit to <br /> Grand to provide the most efficient and safest bus routes. <br /> Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hansen asked if there was going to be any parking restrictions in <br /> the area. Newell responded that there were no restrictions at this time. There is parking <br /> on both sides of the street at the present. Hansen mentioned that the Fire Department's <br /> main concern is for fire trucks to be able to move through the area at the times when the <br /> bus drops would be taking place. This issue will be addressed if it becomes a problem. <br /> It was moved and seconded (Veteto/ Harris) to follow staff recommendation designating <br /> Illinois Street one-way southbound from Condit to Marietta and Calhoun Street two-way <br /> from Condit to Grand. Motion carried unanimously. <br />
