Travis Stanley, Civil Engineer I� <br /> SUBJECT: Miscellaneous South Shores Curb Improvements, City Project 05-10 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution which <br /> authorizes the following: <br /> l. Authorizes awarding the contract for the Miscellaneous South Shores Curb <br /> Improvements, City Project OS-10, to WAS CON Co., as the lowest, responsible <br /> bidder in the amount of$39,402.40, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute <br /> the contract, and the City Clerk to attest, and; <br /> 2. Authorizes the City Manager and the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure to <br /> approve change orders to the contract that will increase the project by <br /> approximately $10,600.00, not to exceed the budgeted amount of$50,000.00, for <br /> the replacement of additional curb and gutter as needed and as directed by the City. <br /> The low bid provides an opportunity to increase curb and gutter replacement <br /> quantities and still remain under the $50,000 project cost originally anticipated in <br /> the capital budget. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The <br /> project was advertised July 14, 2005, and bids were opened on August 3, 2005. The <br /> results for the letting are as follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Estimate <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(- Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $57,191.00 --- <br /> WAS CON Co. $39,402.40 (- 31.10%) <br /> GRS General Contractors, Inc. $54,729.46 (- 4.30%) <br /> Beniach Construction $57,600.00 0.72% <br /> Otto Baum Co., Inc. $74,308.90 29.93% <br />
