E., City Engineer� SUBJECT: Agreement with URS Corporation Condit Street Pedestrian Access, City Project 05-06 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: I Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing an agreement with URS Corporation (URS) for design services for improvements to the Condit Street sidewalks. The proposed agreement is for a fee not to exceed $22,000.00. BACKGROUND: On July 19, 1999, the City Council approved an agreement with WVP Corporation (now URS) for design services for improvements to the Condit Street sidewalks. The project was postponed at that time due to the pending improvement of Wabash Crossing. The proposed design is to raise the south sidewalk through the subway in order to provide better pedestrian accessibility. Raising the walkway will improve the safety of the sidewalk by further separating it from street traffic and also by reducing the steep slope present in the existing side- walk. The sidewalk is in acute need of replacement at this time due to significant cracking and deterio- ration. This route will be a major student and pedestrian thoroughfare with the Wabash Crossing residential development on the west side of the railroad tracks and the new Hope Academy on the east side. POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this request.
