 .+ M
BACKGROUND: continued
The proposed "youth fare" of 60 would apply to anvone ae '
through 1 S,plus anyone with a valid hih school ID. The y
restrictions that had been placed on the student fare would be
eliminated. The-outh fare would be accepted everyday, at any
time, for any trip purpose. The proposed change would have no
noticeable effect on Transit revenues, since fares would increase
for those ae 5 through 11, but would effectively decrease for those
12 through 18 by making the current student discount fare apply to
all trips, not just trips to and from school on school days.
This change would simplify the fare structure, making it easier for
the assenQers and for the bus drivers. B eliminatinQ the student
P b Y b
fare restrictions, young passengers may be encouraged to ride the
bus for more than just trips to school. It is hoped that this will
generate more ridership.
Two public hearuags were held, notices were published, posted,
and faced to thews media, and notices were mailed to 30 local
schools. The attached hearing minutes show that public comments
received were all in favor of the proposed change.
Staff proposes to make this change effective on May 1 st, to allow
ample time for everyone to learn of this change.
