Step #5—IN-SERVICE TRAINING
Loud and clear, your memo mentioned stress and morale issues specifically. We at
PSTC are proud to say that we have Richard Behr on staff. He is the Author of"Under
the Headset—Surviving Dispatch Stress". He can start the in-service training for your
existing staff. We often see some immediate improvement to work product and morale
once they cope or resolve work and personal stressors. Often when PSAP members are
allowed to do some appropriate venting and morale building, we can start the path to
recovery. This is the one in-service training topic that we would suggest be kept in-
house. We could do it in 2 days allowing for scheduling of all staff members.
The next priority for training would present either our Crisis Communications or In-
Progress training. The good news is that we would be able to provide these classes at a
discounted rate. Our plan would be to offer the classes to your entire region and hope
that neighboring agencies would attend. Their tuition costs would lower your financial
responsibilities.
