Started as a `coffee cup' � <br /> day center in October 1989, one coffee pot, a folding card tabie and chairs. In the years ' <br /> since there have been many changes. We have seen a pattern of positive growth. Today ; <br /> we have two homeless shelters continuously filled, the Water St. Men's rescue shelter, ' <br /> Gra.ce House women and children's rescue shelter. We currently have two thrift stores, <br /> which help to under gird the cost of keeping this work viable in our commutity. This � <br /> mimstry is a progressive evidence based program. We are in fact the largest emergency <br /> homeless shelter provider in Decatur, as well as ali of Macon County. Presently we have <br /> 18 men's beds, and 16 women and children's beds. With a vision for further meeting the <br /> needs of this community. We know that prevention is not only before care but after care as <br /> well. We have purchased a home to be used as a men's residential sober re-entry <br /> environment. R.S.R.E.. This home will be used for men coming out of substance abuse <br /> programs, prison parole, and graduates of our own shelters 90-day program, who desire a <br /> sober, structured re-entry into society. We will give them a chance at breakin�the cycle of <br /> hopelessness, as well as homelessness. This home needs renovarion work, but we see this <br /> as the continuation in a natural growth process for this outreach ministry. In 2005, <br /> 600,000 men and women will be released from prison. We must address this need with a <br /> chance of hope. Seventy percent of the homeiess men we deal with are paroled from <br /> prison. We are requesting a grant of 28,000.00 dollars, these monies will be used for <br /> mechanical and material costs.
