Newell, P.E., City Engineer� SUBJECT: Basement/Void Fill of Demolished Structures 332-346 North Main Street, City Project 04-32 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Basement / Void Fill of Demolished Structures 332-346 North Main Street, City Project 04-32, to Entler Excavating Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$25,570.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. Staff requests authorization to expend up to $50,000 to fully complete the proposed work. BACKGROUND: On September 7, 2004, the City Council authorized the demolition of the structures at 332-346 North Main Street. The awarded bids did not contain costs for filling in the basement areas of the demolished structures. Due to the quantity of fill required, it was decided to bid this portion of the work out separately in hope of obtaining better prices to perform the work. The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project was advertised September 22, 2004, and bids were opened on October 11, 2004. The results for the letting are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est. ' Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) Engineer's Estimate $25,400.00 ---- Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $25,570.00 0.67 % , Hutchens Bulldozing, Inc. $28,790.00 13.35 % Otto Baum Co., Inc. $39,720.00 56.38 % ' Entler Excavating Co., Inc. provided the low bid for the proposed work.
