Newell, P.E., City Engineeryt,�,vl/I <br /> SUBJECT: Traffic Signal LED Sections, Section No. 04-00000-01-GM, <br /> City Project 04-13 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the <br /> contract for Traffic Signal LED Sections, Section No. 04-00000-01-GM, City Project 04-13, to <br /> Traffic Control Corporation, as the second lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of <br /> $148,332.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to <br /> attest. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On August 16, 2004, the City Council authorized an agreement with the Illinois Clean Energy <br /> Community Foundation to provide a $105,670.00 grant for the purchase of traffic signal lamps <br /> using light emitting diode (LED) technology in place of standard incandescent lamps. LED <br /> lamps use significantly less electricity than incandescent lamps and will typically last around 10 <br /> years. <br /> City staff will install the new LED signal sections over the next year. They will be installed in <br /> all City owned signalized intersections. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project <br /> was advertised September 13, 2004, and September 20, 2004, and bids were opened on <br /> September 27, 2004. The results for the letting are as follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $148,332.00 ---- <br /> Brown Traffic Products, Inc. $134,255.80 (-9.49 %) <br /> Traffic Control Corporation $148,332.00 ---- <br />
