BACKGROUND: The City now has an agreement with First Transit, Inc., for manage- ment of the Transit System. The term of the original contract was through June 30, 2004. However, the agreement was amended to extend the term of the contract through September 30, 2004, in order to allow additional time for the City Council to decide on certain issues relevant to the hiring of a management consultant. Since the management contract will expire on September 30th, and in order to allow more time for decisions to be made on those issues, it is now necessary to extend the term of the contract again. Dennis Jensen,Area Manager for First Transit, has agreed to extend the current contract. (See attached letter.) As per Mr. Jensen's letter, the attached contract amendment would extend the current agreement for three months, and would automatically roll over for two additional three month periods,unless the City gives notice that it does not wish to extend the contract any further.
