used by this route are also used by another route which operates on 30 minute headways.
Most riders in this area would merely need to switch to using another bus that services these
same areas, at the same bus stops. For them there would be no change in travel time,
transfers, or cost of the trip. For the few riders in this area who want to travel easterly
(outbound) on the#41 route, the change in headways could mean that their trips must be
delayed by 30 minutes.
For riders who live along Grand Ave. from N. Main St. to the Jasper St. area, two additional
routes cross this area providing good alternatives with 30 minute headways. Most riders in
this area would probably be required to walk a little further to reach those routes. For them
there would be no change in travel time (except for the additional walking time), transfers, or
cost of the trip. For the few riders in this area who want to travel easterly(outbound) on the
#41 route, the change in headways could mean that their trips must be delayed by 30 minutes.
For riders who live along the remainder of this route, from east of Jasper St. all the way to
Richland Community College, the proposed change in headways would mean that some trips
must be delayed by 30 minutes, with no transit alternative available. The entire area would
still be served by this route, but the proposed change would lengthen the headway to one
hour. There would be no change in the number of transfers or the cost of the trip.
DPTS operates on a pulse system, with buses meeting at the downtown transfer point at :15
and :45 past the hour. Because of scheduling, not all buses meet at the transfer point at either
:15 or :45 past the hour. Partly because of which buses are scheduled to be at the transfer
point at each time, and partly because of normal school and work schedules, the buses that
leave the downtown transfer point at :15 past each hour carry more passengers than the buses
that leave at :45 past each hour. The proposed service reduction#2 would increase headways
on route#41 by eliminating all buses on this route that leave the downtown transfer point at
:45 past each hour. The table below demonstrates that this change would affect fewer
passengers than eliminating the buses that leave at :15 past each hour.
AVERAGE PASSENGERS PER ROUND TRIP - 2003
For all tri s leavin the transfer oint from 6:15 am throu h 6:15 m
ROLJTE :15 PAST :45 PAST '
#41 E.
