Decatur began meeting these
guidelines in all its federally-funded housing rehabilitation programs in
FY2001. This involved extensive training of staff and local contractors,
and restructunng of program guidelines and processes. As a result, two
local contractors completed training offered by the City in cooperation
with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Macon County
Health Department and became licensed by the State of Illinois, and three
Neighborhood Redevelopment staff inembers are licensed lead
supervisors.
FY04
❖ The City will continue to actively pursue addition funds for mitigation
of lead-based paint hazard active:
❖ The City will continue to train staff as needed so that knowledge of
lead mitigation is current.
❖ Complete projects in conjunction with the Macon County Health
Department through the Get the Lead Out ("GLO")program.
Past Activitv
In FY2003 the City:
❖ Split rehabilitation projects into lead and non-lead rehabilitation. All
contractors who bid on lead components of rehabilitation projects
incorporated into their bids the cost of lead-based paint remediation.
Using an average cost of total projects from the 2001/2002 program
year, we increased our estimated per-unit cost from $38,000 to
approximately$45,000..
13
