Newell,P.E., City Engineer,,/,,(
,,.,
SUBJECT: Storm Drainage Improvements, City Project 2002-31
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for the Storm Drainage Improvements, City Project 2002-31, to Hutchens Bulldozing,
Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of $247,585.20 and that the Mayor be
authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
The storm drainage improvements proj ect is aimed at upgrading drainage or resolving drainage
issues at various locations throughout the City.
Moffet Avenue: This work will install a storm sewer line on Moffet Avenue between
Westminster Avenue and Main Street. The storm line will serve to divert
storm water away from a drainage swale running through back yards between
Moffet and Megan Avenues. The drainage swale is very flat, swampy and
unmaintainable. This work should divert nuisance flows from the area and
allow it to remain dry and maintainable for area residents. It will also add a i
measure of relief for flooding problems on Moffet Avenue. I
Rainwater Drive: Rainwater Drive is near the bottom of a major drainage outfall in the area.
The work will increase culvert capacities and replace damaged culverts on the
street. It will also regrade portions of the drainage ditch running along
Rainwater. The project should reduce flooding along the street.
Cantrell Street/Country Manor: This work will replace an existing culvert crossing on
Cantrell Street. The existing culvert is brick with cast iron
segments attached to each end. Portions of the culvert have
been failing causing sink holes and washing away the
sidewalk.
