POLICY RELATING TO RELEASE OF PERSONAL PROPERTY CONTAINED WITHIN VEHICLES TOWED AT THE DIRECTION OF DECATUR POLICE DEPARTMENT Introduction Prairieland contracts with the City of Decatur for the towing and storage of vehicles as may be directed by the Decatur Police Depaztment. This policy applies to personal property contained in any,�vehicle towed and stored by Prairieland at the request or direction of the Decatur Police Department, except those vehicles that are directed by the Decatur Police Department to be held absent express releas�by the Decatur Police Department. Duties of Dispatchers Upon the request for release of personal property(not properiy becoming part of the vehicle, such a speakers,tires,wheels,etc.)contained within a vehicle towed and stored by Prairieland at the request or direction of the Decatur Police Department,the dispatcher shall: (1)deal with the individual requesting release ofpersonal property in a polite and professional manner; (2) request the claimant to (a) complete the release request form by providing a description of the personal property for which release is requested (b) execute and date the release request form and (c) provide identification of the claimant(if the claimant states that his identification is in the vehicle towed and stored by Prairieland, the dispatcher will have the identification retrieved by a Prairieland employee); (3) upon satisfaction of the requirements of(2) herein, rel�ease the personal property to the claimant unless the property is of such a nature that its possession or transportation by the claimant may be . " unlawful. If the claimant commits an act threatening in nature or otherwise acts in violarion of law,the , dispatcher shall contact the Decatur Police Depar�nent.
