DRAFT
July 9, 2003
Cresthaven Residents
Subject: Illegal Sump Pump Connection to the Sanitary Sewer
Dear Resident:
House inspections performed in your neighborhood earlier this year determined that your
sump pump drain line was connected to the sanitary sewer. This connection has been determined
to contribute toward sanitary sewer overflows that have been occurring in the sewer system
serving this area. Connections, such as this, that permit non-sanitary water into the sanitary
sewer, are prohibited under Chapter 74 of the City Code.
By this notice, you are required to disconnect any and all non sanitary discharges,
including sump pump drainage, from the sanitary sewer within 60 days of the date of this notice.
The repair work must be inspected and approvad by the City Plumbing Inspector by this time. If
the above disconnection and inspection schedule is not strictly adhered to, I will recommend that
the City take the necessary corrective action to complete the disconnection or disconnect the
sewer service and hold the property owner responsible for any and all costs associated with said
repair.
A separate letter is being sent to area residents informing them of the City's offer of a
50% reimbursement to a maximum of$500. The work requested herein will be eligible for this
reimbursement. You may contact City Engineering for assistance in finding an outfall for your
drain line if draining onto your property is not desirable.
This action is in accordance with Chapter 74 of the City Code and in the interest of the
health, safety and welfare of the public.
Your attention to this matter will be appreciated. Please contact City Engineering at
424-2747 or the Building Inspection Manager at 424-2787 if you should have any questions
about this matter.
Sincerely,
Stephen Swanson, P.E.
Director of Engineering and Infrastructure
cc: Matt Newell, City Engineer
John W.
