Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 061003-1 <br /> June 10,2003 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager <br /> Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> SUBJECT: Purchase Order for Replacement Bus Barn Doors <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution awarding a <br /> RECOMMENDATION: purchase order for replacement overhead garage doors for the <br /> Transit System's bus barn to the lowest bidder, Door Specialty - <br /> Overhead Door Co. of Macon County. <br /> BACKGROUND: Staff advertised for bids for the purchase of eight(8)replacement <br /> overhead garage doors (each approximately 22' wide by 14' tall), <br /> with all hardware and motors, including installation. A formal bid <br /> opening was held on May 30, 2003. As shown on the attached <br /> tabulation of bids, four firms submitted bids. The lowest bidder <br /> was Door Specialty - Overhead Door Co. of Macon County ("Door <br /> Specialty")with a bid of $37,688.00. The next lowest bidder was <br /> Midwest Operable Wall Company, Inc., with a bid of$39,950.00. <br /> Staff has examined the bids and determined that all bids meet the <br /> minimum specifications published in the invitation for bids, and <br /> that the bids meet all of the other requirements of the bidding <br /> process. From past work that Door Specialty has done, staff <br /> recommends them as a qualified and responsible firm. Staff finds <br /> that the lowest bidder is capable of, and competent to perform the <br /> work required. <br /> POTENTIAL No known objection to awarding the purchase order to Door <br /> OBJECTION: Specialty - Overhead Door Co. of Macon County. <br /> INPUT FROM James Gillum, Maintenance Superintendent <br /> OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> BUDGET/TIME Staff has already obtained state and federal grants for the purchase <br /> IMPLICATIONS: of the replacement bus barn doors, totaling $70,000. No City <br /> matching share is required. <br />
