Page 2
The main sewer serving the Kaydon Drive area has very little excess capacity. The line was
placed very flat and flows nearly half full during low flow periods. Even minor storm water
infiltration into the line severely taxes the system causing sewage overflows. The ultimate
solution to the ongoing problem is to provide a relief sewer to divert excess flows out of the
system.
The proposed agreement includes determining the best location for a relief sewer, designing the
line, preparing plans and specifications. BGM will make application to the Sanitary District of
Decatur and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for extension of the relief line and will
submit the necessary paperwork to the railroad for a crossing easement.
BGM is a very competent and respected local firm in the field of sanitary sewer design.
Experience has shown that they will provide an excellent design of the Kaydon Relief sewer.
They have performed numerous sewer related projects for the City in a very satisfactory manner.
BGM is currently studying the Ridgeway sewer system for the City.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this agreement.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer at 424-2747 ,
The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item. ,
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: ''
Funding for this project will be taken from the Sewer Fund.
