Newell,P.E., City Engineer`�,��/ <br /> SUBJECT: Kaydon Drive Relief Sewer, City Project 2003-10 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> An item on the agenda for the June 16, 2003, City Council Meeting is the authorization of an <br /> agreement for design services with Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski &Associates, Inc. (BGM) for a fee <br /> not to exceed $9,400 to design a relief sewer for the Kaydon Drive area sewer system. <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached agreement. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> In February of 2002, the City Council approved an agreement with BGM to study the sanitary <br /> sewer system serving the Kaydon Drive area. The attached drawing shows the sewer service area <br /> studied. The Kaydon Drive sanitary sewer system covers an area that extends from Franklin <br /> Street Road on the east, the Illinois Central Rail Road on the west and Imboden Drive on the <br /> north. For many years, sanitary sewer backups and overflows have plagued the homes on <br /> Kaydon Drive and regular sewer overflows occur on Imboden Drive near Medial Drive. These <br /> overflows have caused sewage to back up into private homes and into nearby drainage ways. It is <br /> paramount that the City aggressively address sanitary sewer overflows and strive to identify and <br /> correct problems as they occur. <br /> The BGM study recommended that the main sewer line serving the area be cleaned and derooted. <br /> The City has issued a chemical derooting project that includes this area and should assist in <br /> keeping the lines root free. BGM's second recommendation was to extend a relief sewer across <br /> the railroad tracks and tap into a sewer line on the west side of the tracks that has excess capacity <br /> to contain the overflows. <br />
