COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#03 - 19
May 19, 2003
TO: Honorable Mayor Osborne and City Council
FROM: Steve Garm City Manager
Beth Coute , nancial Management Director
Deborah M. P rry,Purchasing Supervisor
_'
SUBJECT: Addendum to barge for check valve
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends authorizing an addendum to include
' one (1) new 16" class 150 cast steel bolted cap swing check valve, complete with outside weight
and lever, slam retarders and assisting springs.
BACKGROUND: City council previously approved the purchase of a cutterhead dredge, booster
pumps and barge on June 24, 2002 from Dredging Supply Company.
The check valve was inadvertently omitted from the specifications when the project was bid last
year. The valve will prevent the sediment slurry in the pipeline from flowing downhill from the
sediment storage facility to the booster pump station over a distance of approximately 3/ mile.
The valve in turn will block the sediment slurry so the booster pump can be serviced when
needed.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Lake Management staff requested the addition of the
valve.
STAFF REFERENCE: Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management, 424-2863. Keith
Alexander will be at the city council meeting to answer any questions the council may have about
this purchase.
BUDGET: $4400.00 from Water Management Capital Project fund.
