Travis Stanley,E.I.T., Civil Engineer I SUBJECT: Annual Sidewalk Program City Project 2003-21 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution which authorizes the following: 1. Authorizes awarding the contract for the Annual Sidewalk Program, City Project 2003-21, to Entler Excavating Co., Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$188,806.05, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest, and; 2. Authorizes the City Manager and the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure to increase the contract amount not to exceed $220,000.00 to for the construction or repair of additional sidewalks in the City as needed. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this project is to improve the City's sidewalk system by installing new sidewalks or replacing deteriorated sidewalks in various areas of the City. The work also includes the installation or repair of sidewalk ramps where needed. (Proposed work locations are attached) As in past years, this year's sidewalk contract contains the flexibility to add sidewalk reconstruction quantities to the contract as deteriorated segments are identified as causing a safety hazard or a general nuisance to the public. These segments are generally identified by citizen complaints or staff investigation. This year's sidewalk contract allows the City to retain the services of the low bid contractor to perform additional sidewalk work as the need arises over the course of the fiscal year.
