Page 2
The agreement proposed herein includes an option for the City to renew the agreement for up to
two additional years with no increase to the various inspection fees.
Pipeline inspection services have proven invaluable in locating problems and answering
questions that arise in the normal maintenance of sewers along with ongoing condition
assessment. The agreement includes set unit prices for: i
• Sewer Line Inspections: This work is performed through the insertion of a camera that is
driven or pulled through sewer lines in order to determine the condition of the line. This I,
information assists staff in preparing improvement projects or identifying maintenance needs. ,
• Emergency Inspections: Emergency inspections are generally used to investigate critical
sewer problems such as sinkholes, blocked sewer services or mains, maintenance problems ,
and some residential complaints. The ability to get a camera into a line that is experiencing a
failure of some type provides staff with a large amount of information to be used in
determining a proper course of action.
• Manhole Inspections: In addition to main line televising, the City is actively inspecting
sanitary sewer manholes. Manholes are often a weak link in the sewer system in that they are
direct access points that leave them open to traffic impacts and heavy storm water inflow.
These forces often have a significant effect on the structural integrity of a manhole and
thereby, the system in general. A significant step in improving the overall reliability of the
City's sewer system and decrease storm water inflow is to gain information on the condition
of the City's manholes and improve them.
As of this date in Fiscal Year 2002 - 2003, Tele Scan has completed the video inspection of over
181,876 feet of sewer and has responded to over 184 sewer inspection emergency calls. It has
proven very beneficial to have a local firm engaged in televising work for the City.
i
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747.
The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item.
