Newell, P.E., City Engineer A,�/� <br /> v� <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Allocation of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for <br /> Street Improvements �, <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: I�� <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolutions authorizing the <br /> allocation of $1,800,000 for Street Reconstruction, City Project 2003-24 and $1,500,000 for ' <br /> Street Restoration, City Project 2003-08 in Motor Fuel Tax (Ng'T) funds, and that the Mayor be <br /> authorized to sign said resolutions, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> , <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The NIFT funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois Department of <br /> Transportation (IDOT). The local agency is required to adopt a resolution specifying the <br /> allocation of NIFT funds to their intended project. <br /> The resolutions authorize the allocation of $3,300,000 in MFT funds for the City's proposed <br /> street improvement projects. These projects are our annual Street Reconstruction, City Project <br /> 2003-24 ($1,800,000) and Street Restoration, City Project 2003-08 ($1,400,000). Street <br /> reconstruction generally consists of removing existing pavement and replacing it with a <br /> stabilized base and a new asphalt concrete surface. Street restoration generally consists of <br /> milling off a portion of the existing asphalt surface and installing a new asphalt concrete surface <br /> course. <br />
